The sensible among us know, pocket knives are tools, and helpful ones at that! It’s easy to forget that we’re living in an era where because of a few bad apples have souring the bunch, those who carry around pocket knives are met with mistrust. It doesn’t matter what country you’re in either, the stigma is there.
But they are not intended to do anyone harm, they exist to help us with chores and day to day tasks. We’ve lost count of the amount of times we’ve been in need of such a tool and not had one to hand. Not only are they items that every household needs, they’re the sort of thing we may need access to at a moment’s notice, so keeping them someone nearby is essential. While we’re not advocating carrying one around at all times, it certainly helps to have one tucked away.
We’ve reviewed a few multi tool pocket knife products below and have ranked them to help ease your search. All our products reviewed are top quality, to get the best pocket knife deals for you.

1. Victorinox Swiss Army Classic US Flag SD Pocket Knife
Best Features | Pros | Cons |
Special Edition US Flag perfect for any key chain/pocket. Perfect for a pocket knife gift set. | Reliable multi tool with 7 handy features. | More expensive being the special US Flag edition. |
Overview:
This product happens to be our favourite reviewed. Although it has the same features as the multi tool pocket knife below (Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Pocket Knife), it doesn’t make the top spot because it wasn’t this special edition version of the same pocket knife. The truth is the Victorinox Swiss Army Classic, SD Pocket (US Flag Edition) is nearly exactly the same as the Victorinox Swiss Army Classic, SD Pocket Knife. The only difference?
The US flag edition’s case is designed with stars and stripes on the case!
The paintjob is even wobbling ever so slightly to give the impression that the flag is blowing in the wind! We’re just a little bit in love with it and as it’s the same size as the standard SD pocket, we’ve decided this is the model that will adorn our car keys. It’s so small we barely know it’s there, but when we take our keys out of our pocket, we get a glimpse of it every time, and if we’re being honest, it makes us feel all nice and patriotic.
The truth is it’s almost identical to the model below, but there’s just something nice about having this personalised multi tool pocket knife in your pocket, ready to help you with any given task at a moment’s notice. We’re fairly sure Victorinox saw us coming with this special edition design. But in all honesty, we’re glad they did.
Oh say can you see, all the features of this knife include:
- A standard blade
- Nail file
- Screwdriver
- Pair of scissors
- Key ring
- Pair of tweezers
- Toothpick
2. Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Blue SD Pocket Knife
Best Features | Pros | Cons |
Polished stainless steel finish. 7 functions/features. Stunning cobalt blue. | Made very well and durable.. Perfect compactness for a keychain. | Unsuitable for people with large hands. The case is thinner, making it less impervious to damage. |
Overview:
The Victorinox Swiss Army Classic (SD Pocket Knife) is the creme de la creme of multi tool pocket knives. Pulling this out of your pocket to quickly do a chore in front of your colleagues or friends is bound to result in a few comments. We know, it’s happened to us. The model we use is a stunning cobalt blue and really is a talking point.
The SD pocket knife is smaller than the Evolution 9 be about an inch, being around 2.25 inches in length and carrying a weight of 0.74 oz, which in case you didn’t know is incredibly small an light. In fact, it makes the Evolution range rather large by comparison.
We’ve started attaching ours to our key ring so we can carry it around with our car keys. Doing so with such a small pocket knife seems to eliminate any possible risk or accusations that could be thrown at us for carrying around a tiny knife. As it’s so small, it’s highly unlikely we’d ever need to explain why we were carrying such an item around with us to a member of law enforcement or anybody else. This is a stark contract to the Gerber 30 which, though small itself looks far more dangerous by comparison.
Like any Victorinox product this knife is incredibly well made and durable. The blade and other functions are made out of a polished stainless-steel finish. Each tool slides comfortably into a sleek encasement that also doubles up as a handle. This feels incredibly ergonomic to the touch and stylish to look at. On the topic of its case, we feel that although it’s still excellent quality, due to the knifes size the case is a little thinner. This will naturally make it a less impervious to damage and therefore a bit more flimsy that the larger Evolution 9.
As this blade is smaller than the Evolution 9, which we felt those with large hands may struggle to operate, this knife is unsuitable for these people. It’s simply too small, although that doesn’t mean it can’t be used just as well for some tasks.
This awesome little swiss army knife/multi-tool contains the following:
- A standard blade
- A nail file
- A screwdriver
- A pair of scissors
- A key ring
- A pair of tweezers
- A toothpick – We’re not sure why this excites us every time. We’ve never even used a toothpick!
3. Gerber 30-000469 Dime Multi-Tool
Best Features | Pros | Cons |
Made from black stainless steel, it has 9 functions/features. | Small, lightweight and compact. Easy fit for any pocket. | Small multi tool, so larger hands may find it more difficult to use. |
Overview:
As the name is rather a mouthful, considering all the numbers, let’s just call this the Gerber 30. The Gerber 30 resembles a pair of wire cutters more than a pocket knife due to its rather unique design. But this really is a multipurpose tool designed for all sorts of tasks. But in all fairness so are all pocket knives.
The item is made from a sturdy black stainless steel that looks incredibly slick. This is the sort of item your eye would be instantly drawn towards when you opened a toolbox. But the Gerber 30 doesn’t just talk the talk. It also walks the walk. Or should we say cuts the cut?
Despite looking quite chunky on the pictures, the item is actual surprisingly small and lightweight. It’s compact and can ideally be placed inside the pocket with all of its appendages tucked away safely. Making it an ideal companion for various daily tasks. It features 10 separate tools in total which for something so small is pretty impressive and generous on behalf of the manufacturers.
It features:
- A wire cutter.
- A fine edge blade.
- A package opener.
- A pair of scissors.
- A flat driver
- A crosshead drive
- A bottle opener
- A pair of tweezers
- And finally, a file.
Phew, we told you it was impressive.
4. Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-Tool, Evolution Pocket Knife
Best Features | Pros | Cons |
Case contains a ring for it to be attached to the user’s keys. Perfect for a pocket knife gift set. | Small, slides into any pocket but works | Small multi tool, so larger hands may find it more difficult to use. |
Overview:
Also known as The Evolution 9 Junior Pocket Knife, this striking swiss army knife or multi-tool pocket knife to give it its proper title just oozes quality and prestige. Weighing less than 1.3 oz and only being 3.34 inches in length it’s also highly portable and easy to carry around. The 9 Junior is part of Victorinox’s Evolution range and every tool in this range is top quality. While this wasn’t our favorite knife out of the few we reviewed, we had very little negative to say about it.
Like nearly all of Victorinox’s Evolution Swiss made range, the blade and other functions are made out of a polished stainless-steel finish. Each tool slides comfortably into a sleek encasement that also doubles up as a handle. This feels incredibly ergonomic to the touch and stylish to look at. When used as a handle the case feels sturdy and can be gripped well by the hand. Although it is a little small, larger hands may find it a bit harder than most.
The functions included are:
- A rounded tip blade.
- A tiny double-cut wood saw’ – Yes you read that correctly
- A Philips screwdriver
- A nail file
To name a few. Some of the attachments double up with their functions and the case also contains a ring for it to be attached to the user’s keys. Pocket knives are common but this model will change the way you look at them.
5. Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Knife (Swisschamp Xavt) BONUS Review
Best Features | Pros | Cons |
Handy tool for almost anything with the amount of different functions available. | 83 separate functions/attachments. | Has so many functions that isn’t always practical to take around. Higher price. |
Overview:
Did you think we were done? No, just because we’ve already told you our favourite pocket knife doesn’t mean we can’t throw another one in for good measure. And if we’re being honest, we really just wanted to include this one anyway because we liked it so much.
The Swisschamp deserves its name. It has 83 separate attachments/functions which may be a record. The reason this knife legit swiss army knife didn’t make the cut however is because it’s a little bit of a jack of all trades’ and a master of none’. Don’t let that put you off. Every single one of its functions works well, it just doesn’t sparkle quite as much as some of the other items above.
Naturally were not going to go through all 83 functions on this review, but if you want to be impressed head over to Victorinox’s website and see for yourself. Oh, one is a toothpick!
